A new Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2021/1297) amended the REACH restriction list has been published in the Official journal.

This new regulation amends the previous text of entry 68 of Annex XVII REACH, which concerned Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and its salts. Entry 68 on the restriction list now covers perfluorocarboxylic acids containing 9 to 14 carbon atoms in the chain (C9-C14 PFCAs), their salts and C9-C14 PFCA-related substances.

Thus, the substances of entry 68, Shall not be manufactured, or placed on the market as substances on their own from 25 February 2023. In addition, from 25 February 2023, they shall not be used in, or placed on the market in another substance, as a constituent, in a mixture or an article, except if the concentration in the substance, the mixture, or the article is below 25 ppb for the sum of C9-C14 PFCAs and their salts or 260 ppb for the sum of C9-C14 PFCA-related substances.
